Argh! I am so frustrated! I had no idea Paxil caused a weight
gain. It is not listed as a side effect in the drug company’s
literature. My doctor still thinks my unexplained 10 lb weight gain
over the past 4 months might be thyroid related. I finally
remembered (I believe memory loss is another side effect) to search
the web for some answers and ran across this and another website with
first-hand accounts of noted weight gain. I guess it is a relief to
know I am not alone, but now I fear I am going to have a hard time
losing the weight - something I have never had a problem with in my
life. I exercise vigorously five times a week and eat a pretty
healthy diet. I have always prided myself in my flat stomach after
two kids and at 40. Now I can barely zip up my pants!
My doc started transitioning me to Lexapro this week - does anyone
take this med, and if so have weight gain with it? Thanks for
letting me vent.

hello!…lexapro is a refined form of celexa and more
potent per mg. than celexa!..in other words, 10 mg of
lexapro is equal to 20-30mg of celexa!…Supposedly it
has less side effects, but i didn’t find that to be
true!…However, for me, and for many more that i’ve
talked to, IT WILL MAKE YOU “TIRED!”….BIG
TIME!…Take it at bedtime, but i did that and still
couldn’t wake up till late the next day!….But, rem.,
all individuals vary in their reactions to
meds!…good luck!…keep me posted!…chuck

We may also add that the weight gain has just begun, you will continue to gain
while on the meds.. Soon enough you will have the same problems with fitting
into pants that are two sizes bigger than your present ones.!!!

Yes, Kristan, they all can cause weight gain. I was on Lexapro for
almost a year and have gained about 10-15 lbs. I also had my 2nd
child so I don’t know if it could be a metabolism slow-down because
of that alone. But I do know before Lexapro I had a very fast
metabolism and weighed just over 100 lbs. (I’m 5′1″). I am within
healthy weight limits now, but the “fat” is concentrated in my
belly, mostly. Good luck with Lexapro–it has it’s challenges!
