I was first put on prozac but was later switched to zoloft. I was not
on prozac that long due to the side-effects. I started taking zoloft
sometime in 2003. I started out at 50 mg and then was put on 150 mg.
I have had problems with depression for a very long time, and it
especially gets worse around the time of my periods. The zoloft
worked great but I could not handle the weight gain. I went from
arond 118/120 to 145. I decided to stop taking the zoloft this past
September. I quit it cold turkey. The dizziness or whatever you want
to call that feeling, was bad. I still experience it some but not
that much. I started taking seroquel this past August to help me
sleep. I had gotten upto 200 mg but I am down to 25 mg now. As far as
eating, I am primarily a vegetarian but not a strict one. I will eat
salmon, shrimp, and crab claws occasionally. I cut out all bread from
my diet, along with white potatoes, rice and pasta products. I eat
stuff like broccoli, turnips, squash, beans, veggie products like the
burgers, weiners, and sausages. Some of them are rather good too. And
since I'm not a meat eater, the veggie burger and others are a good
source of protein. I have cut back on sugar alot. I don't put sugar
in my tea when I make it. I just have this chocolate addiction that
I'm having to work on. Some days are better than others when it comes
to the chocolate. But I'm not overdoing it like I was. I also have a
recumbant stationary bike that I ride just about every night. I spend
from 40 to 60 minutes on it each night. I'm also getting into
exercising with some 10 lb dumb bells. I also do crunches and
pushups. I think cutting out alot of the sugar and not eating bread
products has helped alot, along with the exercise of course. I still
have a way to go to get back to where I was before the zoloft but I
want to do it the right way by eating healthy and exercising. That
way the weight will stay off. As far as the seroquel, I'm on a very
low dose right now and I'm not ready to come off of it just yet. But
I know that I will have to be careful and watch any weight gain
because seroquel can cause significant weight gain.
