My doctor recommended that I eat at least one serving of grapefruit per day….but I have a major problem: I can not STAND the taste of grapefruit. Not the fruit, not the juice…NOTHING. Have any of you found any tricks to camoflauge the taste of grapefuit or improve it’s flavor?

- Pummelo, the father of the grapefruit;
- Minneola, A crossing between a tangarine and a grapefruit and can be recognized by “the little nose”. See also oranges. Can be peeled by hand.
- Sweeties, are a crossing between the pummelo and the grapefruit. Looks like a green grapefruit and tastes sweeter.

I used my special grapefruit knife, which has a curved blade specially designed to carve out each grapefruit segment. Once this task is accomplished, i could enjoy each goegeous bite of grapefruit as an explosion of juice and pulp, minus the bitter, membranous walls which wereleft behind in the skin of the fruit. This is truly the best way to eat grapefruit.

GrapefruiteDid you know that the grapefruit is an accidental hybrid of the pomelo and orange (or a mutation of the pomelo), first grown in the West Indies less than 200 years ago. Ruby Grapefruit are a specialty of the Harlingen Valley of southern Texas, and the particular variety grown there is called Texas Ruby Red. You can use regular white grapefruit and the salad will still taste just fine (although you may need to add a little more sugar because the rubies are more sweet), but it will lose some of its striking appearance. The shiny black beans, the vibrant green of the cilantro and jalapeno, and the red of the onion, tomatoes, and grapefruit make this one of the more colorful salads you’ll eat.
